Molasses is a thick syrup produced when the sugar cane plant is processed to make refined sugar for mass consumption. Whereas the less healthy refined sugar was destined for our supermarket shelves, highly nutritious molasses - which contains all the minerals and nutrients absorbed by the plant itself - in past times was always more likely to be sold as livestock feed. Rich in iron, high in calcium and magnesium. Add 1tbsp molasses to a glass and add just enough hot water to cover the molasses. Stir until dissolved. Add ice and then top off with either Milk or alternative. Avoiding milk? Try vanilla or chocolate almond, coconut or rice milk.
